Hello September
September has a funny way of making us feel like we should have everything sorted.
The summer is coming to an end, routines are returning and suddenly there’s talk of fresh starts, new goals and getting “back on track”. There’s loads of messages around September being the new January. It’s really not. There’s golden hour, for a start. That definitely doesn’t happen in January. Also, the urge to watch You’ve Got Mail and all the other lovely autumn films. It’s definitely giving The Shop Around the Corner vibes just now.
But what if your September reset didn’t need to involve changing everything?
What if, instead, you simply gave yourself a 1% upgrade?
A little more rest. A little less rushing. A few more moments in the day where you actually stop and breathe.
After a busy summer, your body and mind might be asking for some quiet. Maybe you’re feeling tired, your shoulders are carrying a little more tension than usual, or you’re simply craving a slower pace. And that’s okay. You don’t need to wait until you’re completely exhausted before you start taking care of yourself.
Your 1% upgrade could be incredibly simple.
Going to bed 15 minutes earlier. Putting your phone away before you climb into bed. Taking a proper lunch break instead of eating while working. Getting outside for a walk. Making your bedroom feel a little calmer. Booking the massage you’ve been meaning to book for months.
With many clients this month, I haven mentioned the word ‘routine’ quite a bit.
None of these things are particularly revolutionary. And that’s exactly the point.
We often think self-care needs to be a big event — a whole day at the spa, a new routine, a complete lifestyle overhaul. But sometimes the smallest changes can have the biggest impact when we actually stick with them.
This September, I’d love you to think less about doing more and more about feeling better.
Give yourself permission to rest before you’ve finished everything on your to-do list. Put something lovely in your diary just because it’s for you. Create a little space between the busyness of your day and bedtime. Listen to what your body is telling you.
And remember, you don’t have to earn your rest.
Your September reset doesn’t need to be dramatic. You don’t need to become a brand-new version of yourself.
Just ask yourself:
“What would make me feel 1% better?”
Then start there.
Little by little, those tiny upgrades can become habits that support you long after September has passed.
Love, Elizabeth
