Recently, on holiday, I read a book by Ruby Wax called How to be Human - A Manual, and quite literally, I did my own head in. When did we have to start thinking so much about thinking? I had a brilliant conversation with a friend Michael about it, after asking him what 'mindfulness' meant to him and what was his understanding of it. He had a really great point when he said that nobody ever does just one thing at time anymore. We don't just sit on the train, we sit on the train looking at our phones. We don't just walk anywhere, we walk plugged into a podcast or music, totally unaware of what is going on around us. Worse still, we go our dinner, and what happens when our companion goes to the bathroom? We check our phone! I'm always interested in the toll that all these screen have on not just our mind, but our body too. Ever get the feeling that you can't switch off and relax? There's a reason for that.
